GHG emissions reduction is a paramount task in terms of global response to climate change. The Arctic LNG 2 project is fully committed to this principle and strives to become the leading LNG project in terms of the lowest possible emissions by implementing cutting-edge technology and monitoring carbon emissions across the LNG value chain, including production, liquefaction, and downstream delivery
MINIMAL ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT AT PROJECT SITE
- The Project's underlying concept involves liquefaction trains on gravity-based structures - no LNG plant construction activities are required at its designated location
- No industrial wastewater is discharged into the Ob Bay. The Project includes a system to treat wastewater and re-inject it deep into the subsoil
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- Northern climate enables one of the world's lowest specific energy consumption for liquefaction
- Mixed refrigerant is used across the LNG production process and its composition can be adapted to ambient conditions, which helps to achieve maximum energy efficiency of liquefaction
- The process design uses heat and cold recovery to the extent maximum possible to enable minimal energy consumption
- Aeroderivative gas turbines featuring high fuel efficiency are used as mechanical drives and for power generation
- Thanks to its high energy efficiency, the plant will produce LNG which will be more than 30% below the sector average in terms of GHG emissions intensity
LOW METHANE EMISSIONS INTENSITY
- Boil-off gas is routed back to heat exchangers for liquefaction, or used to fire power generation
- Routine gas flaring is avoided
LNG SHIPPING
- The LNG carrier fleet currently being constructed for transportation of Arctic LNG 2 products will run on LNG, which is one of the cleanest marine fuels
CONTRIBUTION TO GLOBAL DECARBONIZATION
- With its sustainable and pricing features, natural gas has a pivotal role to play in the global decarbonization in the long run
- Arctic LNG 2's environmental characteristics will ensure its long-term competitiveness amidst the transition to low-carbon economy and increasing requirements for LNG projects to cut CO2 emissions
