The Arctic LNG 2 Project taps into resources of the Utrenneye field discovered in 1979 in the Gydan peninsula (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug). It lies approximately 70 km away from the Yamal LNG project at the east shore of the Ob Bay.

As of December 31, 2020, according to PRMS standards, the proved and probable reserves of the Utrenneye field are 1,434 bcm of natural gas and 90 mmt of liquid hydrocarbons.

The field is undergoing thorough exploration and appraisal: 2D and 3D seismic surveys have been completed; prospecting and exploration wells have been drilled, with four of them targeting Jurassic deposits; the first production wells at well pads are spudded with pilot boreholes to obtain extra data on geology and geophysics.

Production drilling began in 2018. A total of 213 wells are planned at twenty well pads.

All production wells at the Utrenneye field are directional (slant) with horizontal completion of up to 1,500 m

8 rigs are in operation at the field

Arctic LNG 2 holds the license for exploring and extracting hydrocarbons. The license is valid until 2120.
